A total of 1,300 doses of the vaccine used to treat canine distemper virus (CDV) in lions were purchased in 2018, with 1,100 doses being used. Following a high number of lion deaths, up to 85 between January and May, the Centre has recommended that the Gujarat government form a special committee of specialists to investigate the cause.
